Hello everyone! Today is my FIRST day of classes for the Fall semester. I am excited to start but also am already looking forward to winter break :P I wanted to show you everything I bought in these last few weeks for school. I don't usually do the whole "school shopping" thing but this year I needed a few things and I thought it would be the perfect chance to show you what I will be using and wearing this semester. Check the links down below if you're interested in any products, and watch my YT video where I haul everything as well. Talk to you all soon!
Hello everyone! Today I will be sharing an unboxing video/post of my new Filofax A5 Planner in the color Duck Egg Blue. I already have a personal size Filofax Original planner in the color patent nude, which you find posts about on my blog and YT channel. But I did not already have an A5 sized planner and once I saw this particular color I knew I had to have it. It is absolutely GORGEOUS and was shipped/arrived perfectly.
I got mine from eBay, because it is super difficult to find this color. I looked on the filofax official website and didn't even see the duck egg blue as a color option there, and Amazon didn't have them either. In the end, it did work out because the eBay seller actually took a lower offer for it brand new so I did get a great deal!
I did create a blog post where I did a little sneak peak of what I was planning on putting inside the planner, but today's post is simply an unboxing. I always like to see unboxings of items I am looking at, and because this color is so hard to find, I figured it would be especially helpful. I bought mine this last July, so it came with a 2016 & 2017 insert set which was awesome! Look below for more pictures of what came inside, and at the top of this post is a video I put on my YT channel of a talk-through.
Thank you all for reading! I am loving this new planner, so stick around for my setup and other posts for this Filofax A5. Talk to you soon xx
Hello everyone! Today I am going to share the graph paper I have been using in my Filofax planner. As you guys know, I have been bullet-journaling for a while in a journal, and so when I switched over to my A5 Filofax, I wanted to test out the system in there.
It took me awhile to find/make graph paper that was the correct size, and that could just be printed out double sided on my home printer. Now I print out extra pages and insert them into every section of my planner. I know this is an incredibly simple insert, but it's helpful so I figured I would share it anyway!
Here are all of the dimensions for the insert. You can cut out a personal or A5 sized insert be simply cutting off more or less boxes:
To get the insert, click here. You will be taken to my 'planning' page of my blog. At the very top of the page, you will see the question 'Interested in Free Inserts?' with a space to enter your email underneath. Once you enter your email, you will be taken to my free stash of inserts I offer to all of my readers/viewers. Just click on the insert you want to download (in this case, the graph paper) and the document will open up in a new window, free for you to download & enjoy!
Hope you guys are able to use the insert and that you enjoyed this post. Talk to you soon! xx
Hello everyone! I wanted to share my college backpack essentials today because I love to be organized and prepared, and feel like what I carry now is perfect for my everyday college days. It has definitely changed since the first day I went to school, and I thought it could be helpful for you future college freshman to take a glimpse at what I think are the essentials. I also LOVE each product I do carry, as they are all tried and true! I hope you guys enjoy this post, and don't forget to check out the links to each product as well as to my YT video talk-through of what I'm carrying below.

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing how I keep my cat Zola's litter box accessible, hidden, and practical for everyone. This DIY comes in around $13 for everything you will need, which I think is awesome. I live in a small studio and knew I had to think of a way to hide the litter box where Zola could still use, but I wouldn't have to see or smell it. The DIY solved every problem I had, and I am super excited to share it with you.
So the first thing I want to mention is what litter system we are using. We had the traditional litter system with the sand in our last apartment, but it was the worst! There was litter all over the ground, clean up was dirty and tedious, and the litter was heavy. This new litter box, however, IS THE BEST. I came across it at Walmart one day and thought it was so interesting. A pee pad? Pellets? It looked crazy. So I went on Amazon and read the reviews and I couldn't believe it. There were 1,000+ reviews and it had 4 1/2 stars! After seeing that everyone had such a positive experience, I decided to order a Breeze Litter System for us in the new apartment.
Basically, a pee pad goes underneath the litter box, and you can pull out the container and replace the pee pad once a week. The pee pad collects all of the pee that passes through the top pellets. The pellets is where any poop is caught (we now take out the poop once a day, and it literally takes 2 seconds) and you change the pellets once a month. Our cat transitioned to the new system flawlessly, and I think she really does like it better because it is much cleaner that the others. If you have a cat, PLEASE go try it out. Cleaning the litter box is no longer a chore, and there is not litter all over our floor anymore so YAY!!
The first part of this DIY is buying this little table (or one similar). I found that the height is perfect for Zola's size, and she can go underneath comfortably. This is the Lack table from IKEA, in the black color, and was only $7. By adding the table over the litter box, we are able to use the area as a side table/catch all right by our front door.
Now it is time to cover up the litter box using mini curtains. For the curtains, I took one extra king size pillowcase we weren't using and cut it in half.
One of the halves I used to cover the side of the litter box. You just fold the horizontal portion of the fabric over a few inches, fold it accordion style, and then stitch it all together using extra thread. I will admit that it may not be the absolute cleanest way to do it, but it only took one minute and no sewing machine, so it was perfectly fine with me! Once you stitch it through, you can pull the tension rod through the gap and hang it like a normal curtain.
The other half of the pillowcase should be cut in half again, vertically. That way, you will be able to cover up the entrance of the litter box, while still giving your cat a walkway inside. once ou cut the piece in half, you will just sew each side as you did the first curtain. Once the sewing is complete, pull the tension rod through both curtains, and hang it on the table, leaving a gap between the two sides as an entrance.
The completed curtains should cover all sides of the table that you can see if placed against a wall or couch. Of course, if it is free standing, just buy more tension rods and fabric as needed to cover all sides.
I think the curtains make it look a lot better, give your cat some privacy, and control any smells (the Breeze Litter System is AWESOME at preventing any odors in general as well).
That is pretty much all you have to do! Now, you can decorate the top. To mine, I added my snake plant, an oil diffuser, wax warmer, mirrored stand to hold keys/phones, and a clock.
I hope you all like it! Tag me @kailanilynn on Instagram if you make one for yourself, and otherwise, I'll see you in my next post xx

Hello everyone! I decided to do a mini planner accessories haul because I have been LOVING the stamps and stencil I recently purchased. Etsy stamps are adorable, but I would rather not spend $20 on one stamp set. When I came across the three stamp sets I have featured in this post, I was so excited. They were $2-$8 each, and the stencil was $4 from Amazon. It really is a steal because they have transformed the look of my planner.
Check out the photos below of each item, and click on the photo to be taken to the item online if you are interested in it. I also included a few of my planner pages and how I used the stamps in my planner. Enjoy!
So as you can tell, I am loving these! Thanks for reading, and let me know if you have any other suggestions for affordable planner accessories. See you soon xx

I figured I would do a quick mini haul on what I got today from Amazon because I am SHOCKED. I got everything I ordered from Amazon Prime Now in under 20 minutes, with totally free shipping.
I'm sure you have a few questions, one of them being, is this a sponsored post?? I would like to say it is absolutely NOT sponsored. I felt inclined to share the incredible experience with you all because it is actually insane that I got all of this stuff delivered to my apartment in under 20 minutes. Second of all, you are probably wondering, how much did it cost? That's the best part- it is free! As long as you have the Amazon Prime membership and Prime Now app, you can order from your phone and get 2 hour delivery free. I found a coupon from Allstate that allowed me to get free 1 hour shipping, and my actual order arrived in under 20 minutes. CRAZY.
Soooo I figured I would do a mini haul. Believe me, there is nothing too exciting. But hey, you might be in the market for a few boring things as well?! Lol, anyway, I'll just talk about what I bought...
Make sure you get yourself an Amazon Prime membership because it has literally changed my life and it will change yours too!!! If you click here, you will be using my referral link and you will get $5 applied towards a purchase when you sign up for a Prime membership and so will I. We both win! How cool is that!
LOL. Thanks for reading, I'll talk to you all soon xx
Hello everyone! So today I am going to share a little sneak peak of my new setup. I recently stumbled across the Filofax A5 Original Organizer in Duck Egg, and I seriously died! I absolutely had to have it. After researching, I learned the color is one of their newest, but I couldn't find it on the Filofax website. I dug around, and finally found an amazing deal on a brand new one from eBay. Because I cannot wait for it arrive, I have started prepping my setup (((desperately trying to channel my excitement into some sort of productivity))). I thought I would upload a few pictures to give you all a quick glimpse of what I will be incorporating!
I will try to include the name/link to everything I have mentioned in case you are interested in anything. I made the MOST beautiful dividers so far with the scrapbook paper below, so I can't wait to see everything all made up together in the new planner. Ugh, why do I have to wait a week to get it?! Make sure you come back and check out the final layout when I upload the final setup when I get the planner. Enjoy!
Make sure to subscribe to the newsletter so you can get updated when I upload my final setup. Talk to you all soon! xx
Hello everyone! Today's post is a little bite of a project I have been working on lately. If you are interested in planning and planning basics, please check out my Skillshare class that I am teaching online called 'Planning a Life You Love: Creating, Organizing, and Utilizing an Agenda'. I would love for you to enroll in the class so I can share all of the tips and skills I have learned through my experiences with planners. So for today, I am sharing some layout ideas from that class for bullet journaling (and just planning in general) that I have been playing with. I know that using a blank notebook can be very intimidating when you first start out, and I looked everywhere for ideas. These are just some of the daily and weekly layouts I have been trying out, and I thought it would be great to share them.
Let me know what your favorite layout to use in your planner below! I hope to see you in my Skillshare class, and I will hear from you in my next post. Thanks for reading!
I can't look past the fact that we all want the same things. We all want to love. We all want to be loved. We want to feel kindness. We want to belong. We want to be nurtured. And even though we all want the same things, the suffering we feel in our hearts pains us too much to allow us to give to one another. How could we love when we do not listen? How can we belong when we do not open our hearts and minds to difference?
At different times in our life, we have all seen and felt the same things. When we see a rainbow or butterfly or a really yummy cookie, we all feel the same happiness. When we drink hot chocolate or hear a compliment or are wrapped in the arms of someone we love we all feel the same warmth.
I think right now, we are all feeling the same pain.
Let us all be kind and gentle and tender so we can all feel whole.
We are all one.
On our way to Disneyland, we stopped at the Madonna Inn. My Nana is obsessed with their glasses that they sell, but I had never actually been to the Madonna Inn before. We took a little detour and walked around and explored, and I am so glad we did! It was so unique and excessive, and was really amazing to see in person. Enjoy the photos! xx

Hello guys! So I have gotten a lot of messages and requests asking how/if I plan digitally. Of course today, everything is digital. Planning digitally, whether that is on your phone, computer, or both, is efficient, convenient, and portable. I have thought about switching over for months, but I just can't shake my affinity for paper planning. So after lots of trial and error, I have finally found a system that works for me.
I have downloaded just about every single planning and calendar app in the Apple app store, and the app that I think is the most streamlined and organized is Calendars 5. For me, the most important aspect of a planning app is a modern and clean looking interface, as well as useful features. What I love about this particular app is that there are several different views, including daily, weekly, and monthly. There is also a task list, that allows you to create tasks that need to be completed and to assign deadlines to those tasks.
I use this app for vacations, events, meetings, appointments, deadlines, etc. I sync the Calendars 5 app with my Google calendar, which houses several different categorized calendars within it. Does this sound confusing? Let me clear it up!
So first, I create a Google calendar. Within the Google Calendar, I create different categories of things I plan for in my life. This includes my class schedule, personal events, work related events, blog/YouTube scheduling, etc. I sync this complete Google Calendar to the Calendars 5 app (because I like how the Calendars 5 app functions more intuitively than the Google Calendar app). When I am out and about, it is easy to schedule events and tasks by simply taking a look at my phone.
Now on to paper planning. Once I have my app full of my events, I take a look at the weekly/monthly view as I sit down every night to write out my tasks for the following day. I have been utilizing the clean and minimal 'bullet journal' system in regards to my paper planning, and I love how it has worked for me.
When I sit down each night to plan, I start my looking at my app for any events that will occur the following day. I write a list of events and the times in which they will take place. After that, I think about any tasks that need to be completed, and I will write those down as well. When that is completed, I use that list throughout the following day to guide what I do and what needs to be completed.
So it's that simple! I will leave links to anything mentioned in this post, as well as the video I filmed explaining the process that I uploaded to my YouTube channel. Thank you so much for reading, and comment below if there is any question you have. Talk to you soon! xx

Hello everyone! Check out this video of mine and Brent's weekend at Deadman Campground. We only went for a day or so, but went fishing, relaxed, and had lots of fun cooking. Enjoy xx
HELLO I HAVE BEEN GONE FOR SO LONG!! But seriously, what has it been, five weeks?! I have gotten wrapped up in my crazy busy life and have unfortunately not posted for a little while. But today, I am back to do a little life update so you guys know what is going on with me!
Here's a quick list of what's been going on...
1. I finished my finals/spring semester! Ugh, so happy to be done. I love school and learning, and I did have awesome classes that I took, but man is it nice to be able to have a break. My favorite classes were my Feminist Philosophy class and Sociology of Death and Dying. I learned so many things that I have not learned about before, and met really awesome friends in both as well. I had three exams and two essays for finals, and I am very happy to report that I finished out strong!
2. We moved out of our apartment! With school ending (and our lease ending) we decided to move out for the summer and go back home. We had to pack everything up and move it all to storage. As I was packing up, I decided to get rid of everything that I did not need/did not bring me joy, and so it was very productive. It feels great to know that when we move back in to another apartment, we will have only the items that we love and need.
3. With that, I'm living at home! So this presents a challenge, because at home I don't have the perfect filming space. Blogging on my laptop is much easier that finding a filming spot and making sure no one is coming in and out of the room and setting up everything I need. But I am working on it, and hope to get a video up this week!
4. I have secured a job for the summer One thing I really wanted to do this summer was to get a job so I could save up for when I went back to school. I am happy to report that I did get a job at an incredible organization, and am really excited about the work I will be doing.
5. I freshened up my blog and YouTube channel Since I took such a long (and unplanned...) break from both, I decided to step back and see what I was happy with and what I wasn't, in order to come back strong. After some trial and error since I started, I am starting to feel comfortable with what I have done so far and solidify my plans for the future. I have thought of great new post ideas, a new look, and great topics, so stick around and see how things will change for the better :)
6. I GOT IN TO MY 'DREAM' SCHOOL So as many of you may have seen from my last post, I got in to UC Berkeley for the Fall! I am so excited, and so proud of myself. It has been my dream school, ever since my other dream school did not work out (that's a whole store in and of itself). Anyway, I was able to apply as a transfer to Cal and I got accepted, and will be starting in August. This school journey has been a rough one for me, but I am so excited to get a fresh start at one of the best public universities in the country. Go bears!
So that is it for now. I PROMISE there will be awesome posts and videos coming out soon, so make sure to sign up for updates for this blog and subscribe to my YT channel. See you soon xx
So right now, I should be writing an essay. But I can't focus. I will be hearing back from a university I applied to and I have waited for the news for months! I am SO nervous, and can't wait to hear back from the school. While I am excited to hear back, I know that the news could be great or really disappointing. For this reason, I've decided to write down a list of things Im grateful.
There are times in life where big news either makes or breaks you. What is crazy is how much this ONE decision can change how you feel about your life, ability, etc. I have a lot invested in my college admissions, but at the same time, I know I will have a beautiful life whether or not I get the news I want to hear. In preparation for tomorrow, I am writing down this list of things I'm grateful for, so good news or bad, I know I can read this list again tomorrow and it will remind me of who I am and how lucky I am.
I am grateful for...
- Living in the Bay Area
- My Support System
- Being Able to Play Around with the Color of My Hair
- The New Friends I Have Made This Semester
- Finally Discovering What I Am Passionate About
- Finally Finding Jeans That Fit Me Perfectly
- My Body that Allows Me to Move and Feel and Grow
- Music That Makes My Heart Happy
- Puppy Instagram Accounts
- The Ability to Learn Every Single Day
- My '100% Boys Tears' Phone Case That I Finally Spoiled Myself With
- The Strong & Independent Women That Raised Me
- My Insane Cat, Zola
- The Ability to Express Myself Creatively & Freely
- Silly Snapchat Filters (((see above)))
- The Dancing and Singing I Get to do When I Get Ready in the Morning
- Having the Best BFF and BF All in One
- The Smell as I Walk Past All of the Flowers in the Grocery Store
- Sparkly Things
- Having SO MUCH to be grateful for <3
Whoever is reading this, just remember that your value is NOT defined by those around you. No matter what you are told, you have the ability to adapt and evolve and become more, and that is something that no decision/announcement/test score/etc. can change.
Take care xx
EDIT: I GOT GOOD NEWS FROM MY TOP SCHOOL AND HAVE BEEN ADMITTED! YAY!
